Victorio Calzados: the story of Victorio tango shoes

“Don Mario: I am a tango dancer and expert shoemaker, how do I refine the bottom of my shoes so that I can use them to dance?” thus began the story of one of the first “exclusively for tango” footwear factories in Buenos Aires: Calzados Victorio. When more than 15 years ago Victorio asked Don Mario, the best known shoemaker in the neighborhood of Mataderos in Buenos Aires, what would be the secret to making the ideal tango shoe, he discovered. “It excited me so much to transform that pair of shoes that, suddenly, the light bulb went off and I began to make them.

With my wife Alicia we started showing them at tango clubs around Buenos Aires: men started ordering them and kept coming back for more and soon women began to ask me to make shoes for them as well. For five years we went out to milongas and clubs to show our products and take orders and finally we were able to build a store and workshop so that also our children could work for the company.

“In order to make really great tango shoes you cannot improvise, affirms Victorio, who began at the age of 18 making street shoes in the back of his father’s house, always in Mataderos which is known as the "Tango neighborhood." 

Victorio tango shoes are strong and durable, entirely made by hand: a half-dozen craftsmen take part in the preparation of these shoes, the main tools being their expert hands, and with only the help of a few and simple machines they are able to make between 30 and 40 pairs daily. The materials they use are of the best quality and great variety: soft leather, patent leather, printed goat, suede, metallics, and many more. Victorio uses different types of non-skid bottoms and great variety of heels in different heights and styles.  In addition, they have patented an exclusive All the  shoes from Victorio Tango  Shoes are made with the exclusive  FLEXITANGO system which makes for the most comfortable dancing experience without sacrificing the look.
